Using NVIDIA Smart Scan

Windows

The folks at NVIDIA seem to understand the pain of manually updating the drivers, and it is for this reason they are offering a Smart Scan. Needless to say, this online tool will automatically scan and download the drivers from the NVIDIA directories. Furthermore, the program will also notify the users as and when a new driver update is made available. If you face any issues while updating the driver, you can always put up your query on the NVIDIA community forum. It requires JAVA to be installed, though.

Also, make sure that you have admin rights while installing the updates and also disable the firewall if deemed necessary. Please keep in mind always download and install the drivers from the official sources its best never to rely on a third party site for the same.

We can imagine how difficult could be. However, Could you please let us know, do you get any error message or error code when you try to update?

We also see that the system you are using is compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and drivers are available only for Windows XP, Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and this might be the cause of issue. We would suggest you to try downloading the video driver for Windows 8.1 for Y840 Laptop (Ideapad) and try installing in compatibility mode by following steps mentioned below.

  1. Right click on the setup file of the driver and select Properties.

  2. Go to Compatibility tab.

  3. Check the box behind Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the operating system from the drop down list.

  4. Then Windows will check for the functionality and install.

If the issue still persists, we would suggest you to download Automatic Driver Updates and then try updating and check if it resolves the issue. You can even try downloading manually from GEFORCE Manual Driver Search.
